Snow Day & Wayside

Today was my third day off of school due to snow so far this school year.  Remember last year with the Blizzard of 2010, I would have to say three days off is much better than two weeks.  Each day we have off of school due to snow means one more day we have to stay in school at the end of the school year.  The original last day of school was Thursday, June 16, but now we are staying until Tuesday, June 21.  It always seems like a good idea to have a snow day, but when you get to June you just ask yourself, "WHY?!"

Because it was a snow day, I spent the day digging out my car and taking a drive to a little place my family calls Wayside.  Wayside was the home of my grandparents, Nick and Ann Rosewag.  They first moved to Wayside back in 1967.

The picture above is the entrance to Wayside.  You can't see it right now because the snow is covering the posts, but the posts say Wayside.

As you drive up the driveway, it splits leading to the house and the barns.  The barns are a beautiful red color.

Wayside is an old farm house that was originally built in 1907.  When my grandparents moved in with six children, they added an addition onto the house.  Wayside is now owned by my grandparents' children.

Nick and Ann fostered an amazing family environment at Wayside.  They had an open-door policy in which anyone--family, friend, or neighbor--could stop any time of day.  The pool and pavilion in the backyard were always filled with people swimming, playing horseshoes, dancing, and so much more.

Recently the family has put in their time to fixing up the house for it to be put on the housing market.  Through some connections a woman from the Howard County Decorator Show House program came by to look at the house.  She loved it!  She loved it so much that she is bringing other people from the board by to see what they think.  So over the next several days, the family will be waiting with high hopes that Wayside will be the next Decorator Show House.

A New Beginning...

Please bear with me for the next few weeks.  This is my first time ever creating a blog, and I have a lot to learn!  This year is a new beginning for me as I travel and take on new things.  I am going to practice blog as I prepare for my traveling affair!
