To recap my first few days here, I have been staying at their home and making some trips to town. On Sunday, I spent the whole day with the family by the pool. There were wooden lounge chairs with white cushions surrounding the pool along with one large umbrella. As we sat around the pool, we drank champagne and had some fresh pizza made in town along with carrots as a side. (I guess you could say I am living in a paradise.) Alfredo and Michela's friends Paolo and Marta were staying the weekend with their boy Francesco, who is fifteen and plays with Greggorio. After a big pasta lunch with bruschetta, we continued lounging by the pool listening to music. Later on more friends of the family stopped by, Veronica and Maximo with their two boys. I had met all of these people the first night I arrived. The boys were becoming more familiar with me, so they started asking me a lot of questions about America in English. Francesco is all about learning the curse words. He had been listening to a song, 'Sexy Bitch,' and he wanted to know what 'bitch' meant. He was asking in front of Greggorio and Michela, so I went ahead and told him the English definition... female dog. They all started laughing and began calling their dog 'bitch,' and who would have thought that the dog would actually answer to the name! Sunday night I had my first real Italian pizza cooked in a stone oven at the Boccaccini home. They made white pizza, pizza with eggplant, carrots, and squash, and pizza with red tomato sauce and bleu cheese. When they eat pizza, they also have prosciutto and ham as a side to put on the pizza. It is absolutely brilliant and delicious!
On Monday morning Michela went to work, which I will get into a little bit later, and I stayed home with the boys, Francesco and Greggorio. Francesco is staying the week while his parents are back home in Ravenna for work. We layed out at the pool. I read while the boys listened to music and swam. Michela returned from work to make lunch, which was pasta. I am starting to get afraid I might gain the Italian 20! After lunch, Greggorio and I started our first English lesson. We worked on the calendar and some household items for about an hour or so. He is a little shy about speaking the language, but I think he will warm up after a few days. When we finished, we all took a swim in the pool and then got ready to go to Civitanova Marche to do some grocery shopping. On our way home, we stopped at Veronica and Maximo's home for dinner. We had salad, chicken, and hamburgers for dinner, so I guess you can say it was close to our 4th of July food.
Today Michela took me to town in Potenza Picena to register me for being in Italy and living with them. We learned that I actually have to go Macerata, which is a bit further away, so I will be going tomorrow to finalize everything. Afterwards we returned home to pick up the boys and went to Michela's work. Alfredo and Michela are both in the shoe business. Alfredo takes care of the business part of the job, which entails traveling around to advertise the business and get clients. Michela is the designer. She creates the shoes and clothing for their company called L'Autre Chose. They have a factory and outlet store right in Civitanova Marche. I was able to see her office and the outlet store today. It was so neat to walk around the office and see so many shoes. They had boards with the different stages of the shoes drawn out. I visited the outlet store, and I saw all of the shoes that are out currently. They were absolutely amazing, so I will probably be going back to get a pair or two before the end of my trip. Right now, Michela and the design team are working on the Summer 2012 collection.
I know you are all probably asking... where are the pictures?! Well, they will be coming shortly. I have been so busy getting used to the life here in Potenza Picena that I haven't really pulled out the camera. So maybe they will be posted tomorrow :)
Ciao!
