A Day in Ravenna

Today we took the 2 hour drive from Potenza Picena to Ravenna.  This is the fourth time I have been to Ravenna.  You may remember my previous post about all the sites of Ravenna.  Well, everything is exactly the same.  Piazza Popolo, Dante's Tomb, and mosaics are all still here!

We arrived in Ravenna a little after 10 this morning.  Michela and I got caffe and biscotti at the bar below the apartment.  Afterwards I spent some quality time with Mr. Gregorio.  While we were in the kitchen of the home, I could hear the opera singers singing from Teatro Aligheieri, which is across the street from the home.

Gregorio, Michela and I grabbed lunch at a a local eatery, Stella.  We brought it home to eat.  Afterwards, I napped then I headed back into the center.  I did some window shopping and shopping.  I was on a mission to find books written in English.  Somehow I lost my kindle charger at home, so I wasn't able to bring it.  I went into about three different bookstores, then I finally found one that sold books written in English.  It wasn't a large selection, so it was quite difficult to pick.  The selections consisted of books Jane Austen, Grisham, J.K. Rowling, and a bunch of other authors I had already read.  Therefore, it pushed me to pick books that I wouldn't necessarily go for.  I selected "Me, You" by Erri de Luca (Italian author) and "The Dog Who Came in from the cold" by Alexander McCall Smith.  Book reviews will be coming shortly.  The one thing that dawned on me today was that I should probably go to places where people are looking for English things, such as the English book section in a book store.  I was shocked to bump into so many different people in the section.  I asked a few of them where they were from and why they were in Ravenna.  A lot of people were traveling for fun, but some people had moved to the area.  So lesson learned today... if looking for an English speaking friend, then head to the local English section of a book store!

Selected Books
After my little outing to the bookstore, I had dinner at Bella Vicenza Restaurant with Michela and Alfredo.  It is the usual place they will go out to have dinner.  Lucky for me this is the second time I have eaten there with the family in the last three summers.  I really enjoy going to their local spots because it makes me feel more at home.  Well, now it's time for a good night's sleep because tomorrow brings a grand adventure!
